Introduction to Trileptal – Trileptal
Trileptal- Oxcarbazepine is the U. S. Food and Drugs Administration-FDA approved anti-epileptic medication designed, developed, manufactured and distributed by the world renowned pharmaceutical formulators in U.S. by an affiliate of Novartis Group of Switzerland. The drug has been produced in Tablet forms having different dose strengths like: 150mg, 300mg and 600mg as well as in oral Suspension with dose strength of 300mg per 5ml. The drug has been indicated for use as mono-therapy by itself or can be taken with other medication for treating the partial seizures in adults and children over 4 years of age having epilepsy. The drug is also used as adjunctive therapy for treating the partial seizures in children ages 2 years and more with epilepsy.

The branded prescription medication Trileptal- Oxcarbazepine is believed to help the patients reducing their partial seizure episodes. This medication is not associated with certain incommodious cosmetic side effects of other anti-epileptic drugs-AEDs like: Weight gain or weight loss, changes in the facial features and abnormal hair growth. This drug has been available in the United States since February 2000 and has been prescribed for more than 1,000,000 patients by now while the medication is already in use in the other nations across the world since 1990.

The patients taking other anti-epileptic drugs as per are required to undergo regular blood tests for che3cking their liver enzyme abnormalities but in case of Trileptal-Oxcarbazepine such routine monitoring is not at all required. In case if the patient is found to be prone to hyponatremia then only the doctor may keep the patient on monitor for checking his sodium blood levels.
